System Setup
Your new Evatel system needs to be properly configured and provisioned before allowing users to start registering and subscribing for services. You need to populate your Evatel system with subscription keys, services such as Virtual Receptionist and virtual assistant, service packages, etc. This WebHelp will guide you on how to complete the setup of your Evatel system.
Steps to Setup your Evatel System
Here is a list of tasks, you are expected to execute when you login as the System Administrator for first time (it is better to perform these configuration tasks in chronological order):
Step 1 - Main Telephony Integration
Your telephony gateway must be configured to properly exchange calls with the Evatel system using the SIP protocol. Go to the System Integration - Call Routing Setup to learn about the Evatel system integration steps.
Step 2 - Define Other Telephony Providers
Your Evatel system needs telephony providers to carry telephone calls. You must configure and test each public gateway and company phone system before adding it as a Known Telephony Provider that can be used by companies. Go to Telephony Providers for details.
Step 3 - Change your Password
Your are still using the default system administrator password. Change this password to a more personal code. Go to Change the system administrator's password to learn more.
Step 4 - Setup Voice Services
Your Evatel system must have the basic suite of Evatel services fully tested and running. These services include the Virtual Receptionist, the Evatel Virtual Assistant, the Smart Number, the Speech Contacts , the Speech Contacts, etc. Define the services to be offered to subscribers. Users can only access and use pre-defined services. Go to Services for details.
Step 5 - Create Service Packages
Your Evatel system must have service packages defined to enable users to subscribe. All service packages to be offered to subscribers must be created and defined by you before assigning them to company accounts. Each service package includes one or many services offered at a certain a pricing plan (monthly and per minute). The details of each package (services and rates) must be defined by you. Users and company administrators cannot create or modify service packages. Go to Service Packages for details.
Step 6 - Create Subscription Keys
The subscription keys are like access licenses for users to subscribe to Evatel services. Therefore, you must provision your Evatel system with sufficient subscription keys to enable your users to subscribe to Evatel services. Select the service packages to be offered with each subscription key. Each user needs a valid subscription key to create a new account and subscribe to selected service packages. Each service package includes a set of services with a pricing plan. You should know that only the system administrator can add or modify the number of subscription keys assigned to company accounts. For more details, go to Subscription Keys.
Step 7 - Define Mail Providers
Make sure that your Evatel system has been tested to access most popular public mail systems such as Google, Yahoo, etc. Each time a mail access is validated, you should add the mail server as a Known Mail Provider to make it available to all users when they subscribe. Go to Mail Providers for details.
Step 8 - Configure the Public Service Account
As the System Administrator, you are in charge of the Public Service account used for subscribers who do not belong to a private company. This is a virtual company account which needs to be configured to specify the type of services and service packages offered, the number of subscription keys, the DIDs, etc. Go to the Public Service Setup for details.
Step 9 - Provision DID Phone Numbers
You should have sufficient DIDs assigned to the public service account. Enter or import a sufficient number of DIDs to make them available to services and new users who require a DID. Reserve at least one telephone number as a DID for the Virtual Assistant service. Make sure that these telephone numbers (DIDs) are active and reachable from the public telephone network (PSTN). Go to Company DIDs for details.
Step 10 - Setup a Virtual Assistant Service for Public Users
The Virtual Assistant service (Speech portal) enables users to access their account and services by phone. Go to Virtual Assistant Service Setup for more details.
Step 11 - Call Permissions
Set the system call permissions to define which telephone calls are allowed or denied for all system users (long distance calls and others). Go to System Call Permissions for details.
Your System Account is Ready to Use
Once you have completed the setup of your Evatel system and tested it on the Web and by phone, you are now ready to make your new virtual assistant services available to customers.
Keep Your Account Credentials in a Safe Place. You will need your e-mail address and password each time you want to login as the Evatel system administrator. Make sure that this information is safely kept and protected.
Note about Company Accounts: If you have not yet created any new company account, you could still do it later. You should know however that people can only subscribe to the "Public Service" as independent subscribers. You don't have to create company accounts until new corporate customers sign-up for the service. Go to Managing Company Accounts for details.

- It is normal that you need help when you start using the system. Like many people who start using a new technology, you might need some help on how to use the Evatel services efficiently. Voice recognition is a leading edge technology that has made a lot of progress over the past years. It enables people to command computers using their own voice. Speech technology is getting better and better in natural language understanding, but it still did not reach perfection. Research continues and Evatel will integrate newer technologies as they become available. In the meantime, quick reference cards and interactive practice sessions are offered to help users master the Evatel commands.
- Have users download and read the Quick Reference card. The best way for users to start is to read these express user guides. They contain a summary of the commands for different services. Have users download, view and print the quick reference card for everyday use.
- Context-Sensitive Voice & Web Help. Users can also get context-sensitive help while using specific functions. During phone sessions, the help is provided in the form of voice capsules and interactive practice sessions. On the Web, help is provided in the form of Web pages.
